Shimano EP6 / EP6-RS / EP6-CRG motor programming

Programming for Shimano EP6, EP6-RS and EP6-CRG motors, allowing you to adjust the motor settings to match your intended use. With programming, the maximum speed can be adjusted to up to 45 km/h, and the actual riding speed is still shown on the display.

During programming, other additional parameters of the motor and bike can also be adjusted. After programming you can download a mobile control app to your phone, which lets you adjust certain settings yourself.

Note: Modified speed and motor settings may affect the use of the e-bike, insurance, warranty, and whether the bike meets legal requirements for electrically assisted bicycles in public road traffic. Check the regulations applicable to your intended use before riding.

⚠️ Warning

Please note that using a software-modified e-bike on public roads, bike paths or other public areas may be illegal. An e-bike modified through programming is intended for use only on private property and at the user’s own risk.

The manufacturer or retailer is not responsible for the use of the programming or for any damage, faults or motor failures that may result. Programming may also void the bike’s or motor’s warranty. Any faults or damage potentially caused by the programming are the customer’s own responsibility.

We recommend using appropriate protective gear and other safety-enhancing equipment to reduce the risk of injury.

Software update:

We do not recommend updating the software of the e-bike motor or other system components after programming. A software update may affect motor operation, the functionality of the programming, or compatibility.

Nature of the eTuning service

eTuning is an independent tool that, within the system’s technical features and limitations, can be used to read, save, or modify certain technical parameters.

The available functions and their compatibility may vary depending on, among other things, the bike model, motor generation, system version, bike configuration, installed components, the connection and communication method used, as well as the system’s technical constraints or modifications made by third parties.

The fact that a bike or motor is recognized by the eTuning service does not mean that all functions are compatible or that all operations can be completed successfully.

Use at the user’s own risk

eTuning is intended for users who understand that changing technical parameters can affect the operation, performance, and safety of the bike, motor, or other parts of the system.

The user uses the eTuning service, the website content, the applications, and the functions they provide entirely at their own risk. Before making any changes, it is the user’s responsibility to ensure that the given configuration, intended use, and modifications are safe, legal, and technically appropriate.

eTuning or JH Corporations Oy does not replace the user’s own judgment, the manufacturer’s instructions, inspection by a qualified workshop, technical inspection, or compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Speed, regulations, and use on public roads

The user is solely responsible for ensuring that the settings made with eTuning and the resulting configuration comply with the laws, regulations, and other requirements in force in the user’s country, region, municipality, and specific place of use.

Changing parameters related to speed, assistance, power, torque, operating range, tire circumference, or other similar characteristics may affect the technical and legal classification of an e-bike or other vehicle.

If the modified configuration exceeds the speed, power, or other limits set for an e-bike or other vehicle, its use on public roads or in other traffic may be prohibited or may require, for example, approval, registration, insurance, a permit, a helmet, technical inspection, or other statutory obligations.

eTuning or JH Corporations Oy does not authorize, recommend, or promote the use of any configuration that is contrary to law or regulatory requirements. If the modified configuration does not meet the requirements for an e-bike used on public roads, the user must limit its use to private property, closed tracks, competitions, technical tests, or other environments where such use is permitted by law.

eTuning or JH Corporations Oy does not define, approve, or certify the legality of an individual configuration at the user’s location. Determining legality is always the user’s responsibility before riding with a modified configuration.

Prohibited use

The user agrees not to use the eTuning service or the information it contains for illegal, dangerous, unauthorized, or otherwise non-compliant purposes under applicable regulations.

The user may not:

  • use eTuning to violate traffic, type-approval, road safety, or technical regulations;
  • ride on public roads or in other traffic with a configuration that is not permitted there;
  • modify a bike, motor, or other system owned by a third party without proper authorization;
  • intentionally conceal modifications made from the bike’s owner, buyer, end user, workshop, insurance company, authorities, or technical inspection;
  • make changes in a way that can reasonably be considered to endanger the safety of the user, other people, or property;
  • illegally bypass safety systems, statutory limits, or technical control systems;
  • copy, manipulate, resell, distribute, decompile, or attempt to bypass the eTuning service’s licensing, activation, or protection systems.

Technical risks and responsibility for modifications

Changing technical parameters can involve risks such as connection errors, interrupted writing processes, loss of USB or Bluetooth connection, errors caused by faulty drivers, cables, connectors, or components, incompatibilities, parameters rejected by the system, temporary or permanent loss of settings or configuration, unexpected behavior, or later need for service or repair.

Modifications may also affect the manufacturer’s or seller’s warranty, insurance coverage, vehicle approval, or other rights and obligations of the user.

Before making any changes, the user must ensure that the computer, phone, bike, motor, interface, cabling, and power supply are functioning properly and are sufficiently stable to carry out the modification.

During the modification, the user must not disconnect cables, interrupt the connection, switch off the device or bike, or otherwise interrupt the ongoing process unless the eTuning instructions explicitly direct them to do so.

The provider of the eTuning service and JH Corporations Oy are not liable for damage, malfunctions, loss of data or settings, compatibility issues, maintenance or repair costs, or other direct or indirect damages resulting from the use of the service, changes to technical parameters, actions contrary to the instructions for use, hardware, connections, software, or modifications made by third parties, to the extent that limitation of liability is permitted under applicable law.

Riding safety

Any settings that change system operation, speed, power, torque, or assistance behavior can affect the bike’s riding characteristics and safety.

The user must test all changes in a safe, controlled, and legal environment before riding in normal traffic or using the bike otherwise.

Particular caution must be exercised when changing, for example, speed, level of assistance, power, torque, the start or cut-off of assistance, dynamic behavior, or other parameters that affect riding.

The user is always responsible for ensuring that the bike and its components are suitable for the modified use and that the bike is used safely.

Warranty, approval, and insurance

Using eTuning and changing technical parameters may affect the warranty or other liability given by the manufacturer, seller, importer, distributor, or repair shop.

Modifications may result in a manufacturer, repair shop, insurance company, authority, or technical inspection refusing repair, warranty compensation, insurance compensation, approval, or other claims.

The user is solely responsible for determining, before making any changes, how the modifications affect warranty, insurance, approval, servicing, registration, and the right to use the bike.

eTuning and JH Corporations Oy do not guarantee that manufacturers, repair shops, insurance companies, authorities, or technical inspections will accept the modifications made or the configuration resulting from them.

Compatibility and third‑party modifications

The compatibility of eTuning may depend, among other things, on hardware, motor, system and firmware version, previous modifications, regional settings, installed components, the interface used, connection method, cabling, and internal system limitations.

Manufacturers of bikes, motors, and other compatible systems may change firmware, data transfer protocols, limits, security methods, or other technical functions without any influence from the eTuning service provider.

Such changes may limit functions that were previously available, alter how the system operates, or completely prevent certain parameters from being modified.

eTuning or JH Corporations Oy is not responsible for changes made by manufacturers or other third parties and does not guarantee future compatibility of the service with all systems, firmware versions, components, or configurations.

The user accepts that the functionality and compatibility of eTuning may change even after the service or the right to use it has been purchased.
